Marston's Plc has been rewarded for its carbon saving initiatives, winning the category of 'Champion of Carbon Saving Champions' at the first annual Low Carbon Performance Awards, thanks to the work of its Energy & Environmental Manager Bob Jauncey.

Launched by The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), in association with E.ON, one of the UK's leading electricity and gas companies, the awards aim to reward low carbon "performance not promise" and took place at the Grosvenor Hotel on the 6th February.

Marston's entered the awards as part of its participation in CIBSE's 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign 2007; an initiative aimed at cutting the amount of carbon emitted from the workplace. Over 700 organisations signed up to the campaign, including museums, schools, hospitals and offices.

To ensure a successful campaign, Bob lead from the front, practiced what he preached and encouraged all members of staff to get involved and make real carbon savings. Initiatives included supplying all of the Energy Management Team with a publication called 'change the world 9 to 5', full of actions such as 'don't be an idea's killer', encouraging ideas to be built upon instead of criticised.

Bob said…."We now have a permanent energy & environmental champion's team and taking part in the 100 Days campaign focused our efforts to reduce our environmental impacts and provide us with a threshold for the future"

CIBSE President John Armstrong said: "The awards were a perfect way of ending the 100 days campaign. All the winners have exhibited commitment and determination in ensuring their carbon saving activities made the greatest impact and we wish them well in their future initiatives."
